Hey ppl, below are some of the stories from chain letters that were sent to me. Do spend sometime reading 'em 'coz I think from these stories we can learn new things about life or just remind ourselves about us and the people around us.
Here are the subjects: -
Other inspirational words or encouragements in poster form: -
>> > Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One
of them was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon
> to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the
> room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time lying flat
> on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives
> and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military
> service, where they had been on vacation and so on. And on every
> afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would
> pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see
> outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those
> one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all
> the activity and colour of the outside world.
> The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man said.
> Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model
> boats. Lovers walked arm in arm amid flowers of every colour of the
> rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the
> city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window
> described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side
> of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
> One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade
> passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band, he could
> picture it in his mind as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with
> descriptive words. Unexpectedly, an alien thought entered his head. Why
> should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get
> to see anything? It didn't seem fair. As the thought fermented, the man
> felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed by and he missed seeing
> more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and it soon turned him
> sour. He began to brood and he found himself unable to sleep. He should
> be by that window - that thought now controlled his life. Late one night
> as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough.
> He was choking on the fluid in his lungs.
> The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man
> by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from
> across the room he never moved, never pushed his own button which would
> have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes the coughing
> and choking stopped, along with the sound of breathing. Now there was
> only silence deathly silence. The following morning, the day nurse
> arrived to bring water for their baths.. When she found the lifeless
> body of the man by the window, she was saddened and called the hospital
> attendants to take it away - no hassle, no fuss. As soon as it seemed
> appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the
> window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure
> that he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he
> propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look. Finally, he
> would have the joy of seeing it all by himself. He
> strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside. It faced a
> blank wall. !!!!!!!!!
A love story that would touch your heart...
>> > There was once a guy who suffered from cancer... a cancer that can't be
treated. He was 18 years old and he could die anytime. All his life, he
was stuck in his house being taken cared by his mother. He never went
> outside but he was sick of staying home and wanted to go out for once.
> > So he asked his mother and she gave him permission. He walked down his
> block and found a lot of stores. He passed a CD store and looked through
> the front door for a second as he walked. He stopped and went back to
> look into the store. He saw a young girl about his age and he knew it
> was love at first sight. He opened the door and walked in, not looking
> at anything else but her. He walked closer and closer until he was
> finally at the front desk where she sat.
> > She looked up and asked "Can I help you?" She smiled and he thought it
> was the most beautiful smile he has ever seen before and wanted to kiss
> her right there.
> > He said "Uh... Yeah... Umm... I would like to buy a CD." He picked one
> out and gave her money for it. "Would you like me to wrap it for you?"
> she asked, smiling her cute smile again. He nodded and she went to the
> back.
> > She came back with the wrapped CD and gave it to him. He took it and
> walked out of the store. He went home and from then on, he went to that
> store everyday and bought a CD, and she wrapped it for him. He took the
> CD home and put it in his closet. He was still too shy to ask her out
> and he really wanted to but he couldn't. His mother found out about this
> and told him to just ask her.
> > So the next day, he took all his courage and went to the store. He
> bought a CD like he did everyday and once again she went to the back of
> the store and came back with it wrapped. He took it and when she wasn't
> looking, he left his phone number on the desk and ran out...
> > !!!RRRRRING!!!
> > The mother picked up the phone and said, "Hello?"
> > It was the girl!!! She asked for the boy and the mother started to cry
> and said, "You don't know? He passed away yesterday..."
> > The line was quiet except for the cries of the boy's mother.
> > Later in the day. the mother went into the boy's room because she
> wanted to remember him. She thought she would start by looking at his
> clothes. So she opened the closet. She was face to face with piles and
> piles and piles of unopened CDs. She was surprised to find all those CDs
> and she picked one up and sat down on the bed and she started to open
> one.
> > Inside, there was a CD and as she took it out of the wrapper, out fell a
> piece of paper. The mother picked it up and started to read it.
> > It said: Hi... I think U R really cute. Do u wanna go out with me?
> Love,
> Jacelyn
> > The mother opened another CD...
> > Again there was a piece of paper. It said: Hi... I think U R really => cute. Do u wanna go out with me?

During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one:
What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.
Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. Absolutely, said the professor. In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello' I've never forgotten that lesson.
I also learned her name was Dorothy.
One night, at 11:30 PM, an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm.
Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her -generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxi cab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry She wrote down his address, thanked him and drove away. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door.
To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached.
It read:
Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes but my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
How much is an ice cream sundae?
Fifty cents, replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.
How much is a dish of plain ice cream? he inquired.
Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient. Thirty-five cents, she said brusquely.
The little boy again counted the coins. I'll have the plain ice cream, he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away.
The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed.
When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies - her tip.
In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road.
After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.
The peasant learned what many others never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition.
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies, needed to combat the illness.
The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, Yes, I'll do it if it will save Liz.
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, Will I start to die right away?
Being young, the boy had misunderstood the doctor he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood.

>>>I was then an only child who had everything I could ever want. But even
>>>a pretty, spoiled and rich kid could get lonely once in a while so when
>>>Mom told me that she was pregnant, I was ecstatic. I imagined how
>>>wonderful you would be and how we'd always be together and how much you

>>>So, when you were born, I looked at your tiny hands and feet and
>>>marveled at how beautiful you were. We took you home and I showed you

>>>you never reacted. When you were five months old, some things began to
>>>bother Mom. You seemed so unmoving and numb, and your cry sounded odd
>>>almost like a kitten's.
>>>So we brought you to many doctors. The thirteenth doctor who looked at

Maybe life wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know to be grateful for that gift.
When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.
The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.
It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
So keep putting one foot in front of the other and taking your life day by day, there's a brighter tommorrow that's just down the road.
Dear friends,
I think this applies to friends, sometimes is not that ppl don care, is who the person really wans to talk/ tell to which person... Do you have any idea of who meant the most to you? There is this guy who loves two gals at the same time but he don't know which one he loves more. Someone taught him:
If you are happy, who you think of first? If you think of her, she is the one you love more." NO, THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO TEST THE FORMULA OF LOVE!
Ask yourself this question honestly:
"When you are sad, which gal you want to share your burden with?" If you think of that gal first, she will be the one that you love more.
However if you think of the same gal when you are happy & sad, that's the most perfect.
But if you didn't think of the same gal, I would advise you to chose the one you are willing to share your sadness with. In life, there are more sorrows than happiness. There are too many people whom you can share your happiness with, not necessary your lover. If you live your life happily, you can also enjoy it alone. Sadness, however not many people is willing to share burden with you.
If you willing to tell her your unhappiness, I am sure she got to be closest & most understanding person to you. In other words, if she only think of you when she is happy, but look for someone else when she is sad. This kind of lover is too unstable, she didn't treat you as someone she can spend the rest of her life with.
Of course, I will be very happy if I am the first person to share her happiness. But, if she is sad, I will be too willing to stay by her side & ease her pain. Only then, I will believe I hold a very important position in her heart.
If you are sad, who comes to your mind first?
Friendship is a strange thing. We find ourselves telling each other the deepest details of our lives ... things we don't even share with the families who raised us.
But what is a friend?
A confidant?
A shoulder to cry on and to listen?
A heart to feel?
A friend is all these ... and more. No matter where we met, no matter how long we've been together ... I call you friend. A word so small, yet so large in feeling, a word filled with emotion, a word overflowing with love.
Truly great things come in small packages. Once the package of friendship has been opened, it can never be closed. It is a constant book always waiting ... waiting to be read ... and enjoyed.
We may have our disagreements ...
we may have our disappointments ...
we may argue ...
we may concern one another ...
Friendship is a unique bond that lasts through all tribulations. A part of each of us goes into our friendships ... our humor ... our experiences ... our tears. Friendships are foundations ... necessary for life ... and love.Friends ... you and me ... you brought another friend and then we were three ... we started our group ... our of friends ... there is no beginning... there is no end.
Sincerely,
A friend
You know, he almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road. But even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her. Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe, he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you.
He said, "I'm here to help you ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan." Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid. Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. She asked him how much she owed
him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. Bryan never thought twice about the money just helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty who had given him a hand in the past... He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance that they needed, and Bryan added "...and think of me".
He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.
A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The cash register was like the telephone of an out of work actor-it didn't ring much. Her waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wethair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed that the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan. After the lady finished her meal, and the waitress went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, the lady slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. She wondered where the lady could be, then she noticed something written on the napkin under which was 4 $100 bills. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote.
It said: "You don't owe me anything, I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you."
Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered it's gonna be all right; I love you, Bryan."
My 2 cents' worth: What the story is trying to convey is that, you should not expect reward in any way when you help someone. Offer help in the most sincere way and somehow, you will be rewarded in the most uncanny ways. At the end of the day, at least you are happier knowing that you've reached to someone who needs it most.
Quiz
Take this quiz:
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Brownlow trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss Australia contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do
Not too good huh?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies.
Awards tarnish.
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
6. Name your neighbour who has helped you.
Easier? The lesson?
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.
